Mandelic Acid - MZSkin

By In

Mandelic Acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid valued for its medicinal and pharmaceutical uses. Its name comes from the german word for almonds, “mandel”, as it was originally discovered by a german scientist in bitter almonds.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) are renown for their capacity to penetrate into the layers of the skin to act on living cells. Mandelic acid, being bigger than other AHAs penetrates the skin more slowly which makes it very gentle and thus suitable for all skin types including very sensitive skin. Mandelic acid has a multitude of benefits, including improvement of acne, wrinkles, skin texture and brown patches.

The antibacterial properties of mandelic acid act on acne. Mandelic acid helps regulate sebum production which consequently decreases the occurrence of breakouts.

In addition, mandelic acid triggers cell renewal which dissolves bonds between skin cells, removing dead skin at the surface of the skin. This process reduces wrinkles and improves skin texture.

Mandelic acid also is very helpful in combating hyperpigmentation, especially melasma. Melasma is a skin condition where brown patches develop on the face. Mandelic acid has shown to significantly reduce melasma even for the most sensitive skins.
