How to Use an LED Face Mask: Your Complete At-Home Guide
There is no denying that technology is largely shaping the beauty and skincare industry. Implementing new technology into your daily routine is a learning curve and high-tech innovations often seem like a daunting experience. LED face masks have become one of the most effective at-home technologies for supporting visible skin rejuvenation. If you are new to LED red light therapy, understanding how to use an LED mask correctly is essential for achieving optimal results while maintaining skin comfort and safety.
Developed using clinically informed light technology, MZ SKIN LED devices are designed to complement professional treatments and elevate your at-home skincare routine.
What Is LED Mask Therapy?
The abbreviation LED stands for Light Emitting Diode, and it delivers specific wavelengths of light into the skin. Each wavelength penetrates to a different depth and is selected to support targeted skin concerns such as visible ageing, breakouts, redness, or uneven pigmentation.
Originally used in medical and clinical environments, LED technology is now available for safe, non-invasive use at home through advanced LED face masks and LED eye masks.
What Colour Light Suits My Skin?
LED mask aims to target specific skin concerns, so it’s best to learn your skin type and what skin issues you want to combat in the first place. MZ Skin LED treatment has a selection of 5 wavelengths:
-
Red light (630nm)
Supports collagen and elastin production, helping skin appear firmer, smoother, and more luminous. Red light therapy is commonly used for anti-ageing concerns. -
Blue light (430nm)
Helps target acne-causing bacteria to reduce congestion and blemish-prone skin. -
Green light (520nm)
Helps minimise the appearance of hyperpigmentation and supports a brighter, more even-looking complexion. -
Yellow light (570–590nm)
Calms visible redness and sensitivity while supporting skin comfort. -
White light (450–460nm)
Supports skin recovery and repair, making it ideal for compromised or stressed skin.
How to Use an LED Face Mask at Home
Follow this simple step-by-step guide to get the most from your LED face mask safely and effectively.
-
Cleanse your skin thoroughly and ensure it is completely dry
-
Secure the LED face mask comfortably to the face using the adjustable straps
-
Connect the device to the power control and switch it on
-
Select your preferred light colour and treatment mode
-
Start with 10 minutes at the lowest intensity
-
Gradually increase session time up to 30 minutes as your skin builds tolerance
-
Relax and allow the device to switch off automatically when the treatment is complete
LED masks should feel comfortable and warming, never hot or irritating.
“I have several skin concerns. Can I use multiple light options during the same session?”
Effective skincare goes by the rule “Less is Better”. Overdoing your skin all at once can cause redness and irritation and worsen breakouts. Lights can be used at the same time. In that case, we recommend two different lights for 10 minutes each. Alternatively, we suggest using a combination of lights throughout the week (i.e. Red light on Monday; Blue light in Tuesday etc.). Thus, you will be getting some type of skin treatment every day. We also do no recommend exceeding usage time as prolonged exposure could cause skin or eye damage.
Can You Use More Than One LED Light in One Session?
When it comes to LED therapy, less is more. Over-treating the skin can lead to irritation or sensitivity.
-
You may use up to two different light colours in one session
-
Limit each light to 10 minutes
-
Alternatively, rotate colours throughout the week (for example, red light one day, blue light the next)
This approach allows you to address multiple skin concerns without overwhelming the skin.
Can LED Masks Be Used Around the Eyes?
Targeted LED eye masks are specifically designed for the delicate eye area and can be used alongside hydrocolloid eye patches to enhance results. Always ensure the device is designed for eye-area use and follow product-specific guidance carefully.
Is LED Mask Therapy Safe?
LED mask therapy is non-invasive and considered safe when used as directed. LED masks are not suitable for those who are pregnant, have epilepsy, cancer, haemorrhage or are taking medications, including, but not limited to tetracycline or steroids.
If you are unsure whether LED therapy is suitable for you, consult a medical professional before use.
